If you are a Hacker,Pentester, BugBounty hunter,Security researcher or just another skid who pings Google in front of friends to look cool ,then its likely that you must have already know about some linux distros which are particularly made for them.Today there is a wide range of distros which are made keeping these geeks in mind,It all started with distros like backbox,Blackarch, a few other…But,
kali came out as a game changer …!!!
It is the most prefered Operating System by the community , Even Mr.Robot is shown to be using it. Kali has lots of cool things ,a nice community …Its like the perfect sword in the hands of an ultimate warrior (By warrior I meant 1337’s , skids dont get happy and smile) .
I have been using Kali for the last 2 years and indeeed it was my favourite distro until I had my Hands on Parrot-sec Os.And ever since I am in just loving it. It has all the other things which Kali lacks or is hard to implement on kali.
Note :- Whatever you read below are my views about why I prefer parrotsec over Kali .Both have their own pros and cons
Hacking is nothing about tools, Its all about skills..!!!
10 Reasons why I prefer Parrot :-
1. The Appearance :-
Beautiful …!!! isnt it ?
AWWWESOME …!!!! this was my reaction when I saw it, maybe you must be thinking that I am exaggerate it ? yeah , maybe but its totally worth it..!!!You can define it as a bad4$s girl , with a cute little smile on her face,which any guy would fall.
If you see carefully, there are two panes…one at the top and one at the bottom, idk what its called particularly but lets call it Upper pane and bottom pane for this writeup.
upperpane:- In the upperpane at the left side you have Applications,Places,System which is much like Kali itself, in the center you can see some cool graphs there…its system manager (will jump to it later).And at the right hand side we have Network and tempreture…blah blah
bottom pane :- In the bottom pane you have Menu in the left and workspace manager in the right.
Although the appearance choice is personal but,you cant disagree to the fact that its better than kali.
2. You can do other things also :-
Dirbuster will take time ..!! lets play chess until then
So there arent a lot of things which you could do in kali,like games, some office work,….blah blah. You can but installing them is a real pain.
But in parrot there are a lot of things which you could do, it has libre office by default, It has Games (chess only) It has a planner, VYM, etc. All this things are very handy.Parrot was made not just as a hackers distro, but it was build as a distro which anyone could work for regular use.
3. Anon Surf :-
need to get in the hood.
You must have heard the line,
Every hacker changes his night at midnight.
I dont wanna go much in it, but parrot has Anonsurf preinstalled and configured, so if you are doing something nasty and wanna be under the hood, You can do it in just a click.

3. Workspaces :-
Like it clean
workSpace manager is a very handful thing which comes in parrot,you can code on one screen,do something else on other, or play chess on the third screen. Its one thing which was present in the previous versions of kali ,and I think it must be added again.It helps to manage things.
4. Cryprography :-
Cryptography
Now, I havent been using this lately,but it helps to create encrypted folders easily which is good thing.Because hackers always deal with things which they should hide and this would save a lot of time.
4. Programming Environment :-
Parrot got it all for you..!!!
Parrot comes with a Bunch of text editor and IDEs as you can see (sublime doesnt come preinstalled) , It uses pluma as default text editor which is a lot better then Gedit.
Another cool feature for programmers is that, if you right click , and then click on new document,it actually has sub directory for programmming,web,etc…from where you can directly make an intended file, it itself writes the syntax, or imports some important class for you.I felt it very useful and often use it.
would love to see it in kali in the upcoming verions,
5. System Manager :-
ps -aux works, but this is better.
Now this is a other powerful feature in parrot, it shows you processes , resources, file systems,etc.c
I know very well you can do the same thing in kali with a one line command, ps -aux
but then when you are lazy AF(like me), then this thing is a keeper.
6. Stash of Tools :-
tools Everywhere..!!!
Just like Kali, Parrot comes with hell lots of tools…but if you see the sections there are a lot of other things which are not in kali,like Automative, Sys Service,etc.
This is one of the important feature i prefer parrot, coz tools make life easier and in parrot there’s no shortage of tools.
7. Performance :-
Lets talk about Performance
Talking about performance, almost all of us know that Kali is a bit laggy.And when you run it on a low end system sometimes its like a nightmare when you have a bruteforce attack going on in background, and you are doing something else.
But it in Parrot it is very light weight and doesnt lag much.For the sake of testing , I started a bruteforce attack in background,and then started all fatass GUI based tools and softwares in the end I started BurpSuite, and it had lag. but after opening burpsuite it worked butter smooth.
so I guess that explains Performance.
8. UserFriendly :-
We all know that when it comes about being userfriendly kali falls on its face. Its not a startup distro and hence not for begineers. while about parrot, i saw many people saying that you should first learn kali before moving on to parrot, I guess according to me , you can take the leap any time.
Parrotsec is more userfriendly as compared to Kali because of it user Interface, any one with a basic knowledge of ubuntu can use it very easily.
9. Powerful System manager tools :-
Parrot comes with bunch of system tools, which is easily accessed , instead of searching for command on kali.
10. Hardware Requirement :-
Hardware requirement is a thing which we ignore most of the time, coz we know very well that our systems are much more powerful then the expected hardware.
Now kali and parrot both donot require high end hardware but parrot needs low specification hardware as compared to kali.
These were the reasons I prefer Parrot sec over Kali linux, but i like and use both of them as I said Its never about which operating system or tool you are using,it all depends on your skills.
